| Midgar....a realm slowly rising from the ruin that the inhabitants had wrought upon themselves and the land. The exact history of Midgar is unknown, but for the stories passed down by the survivors of the Great War. Some spoke of great warriors, powerful magic, amazing technology, and heroic exploits. Others told of fantastic creatures and portals to other worlds, created by the combined efforts of the mages and technomages. Finally, others told of the Fall. Though stories vary, they all agree that the greed of the mages and technomages started the Great War that destroyed Midgar. Few survived the destruction, but those that did turned to the old ways to protect themselves. Finding spears, swords, shields and the few surviving tomes on smithing and warfare amongst the rubble, they began to forge out a new life. That was a millenia ago. Today Midgar is alive once more, though not as advanced as it once was. Portals and vaults have been found dotted across the land, leading to new realms and newfound knowledge. The details of the Great War are still a mystery, though many have tried to find more clues amidst the remaining rubble. Even with the memory of the War and the Fall still fresh amidst the rubble and rebuilding there is not a lasting peace in Midgar. A civil war has begun between the elementals and the humanoid races for unknown reasons. Though normally peaceful and diplomatic beings, the elementals have recently become enraged and unreasonable. Most believe that foul magic is behind the civil war....thankfully, none of the fighting has spread past the outer reaches of Midgar, where the elementals dwell. To complicate matters, scores of goblins across Midgar have been possessed by a nameless fire demon's blood, while a trio of liches have killed and raised an entire settlement of nomadic orcs. There are measures being taken to restore the orcs and goblins to their normal state, but it is slow going thanks to the countermeasures of the liches and the fire demon. | |
