In the millennia since the Fall of Midgar, several tomes have been unearthed during the rebuilding process. From these tomes, much has been learned of the history of Midgar preceding the Great War. The Great War itself is still a mystery, as none of the tomes discovered tell of the events preceding it or the Fall itself. All that is known is that the Great War raged for a thousand years and that it was fueled by the greed and influence of the mages and technomages. As for the history of Midgar…….
Midgar was once a wild, nameless world full of magic, dragons, elementals, animals and fey. By chance, a Circle of mages stumbled across it in their pursuit of knowledge, and created portals across the land for others to follow. Some of the mages used their magic to create machines, and became to be known as technomages. Races of all kinds came to live in Midgar: orcs, goblins, dwarves, halflings, gnomes, elves, humans, half-orcs, half-elves, and even some minor demons found their way through the portals and settled there. Back then, the world had no name, and was simply referred to as “The Land”. Back then, everyone lived in peace, building and creating together.
A council was formed to govern the affairs of The Land and the inhabitants. The council itself consisted of twenty-eight members, two representatives from each race and element, and was presided over by a mage and a technomage of the Circle. One of the council’s many decisions was to bring a name to their home….and so called the lands Midgar, as many different realms and peoples had met in the middle. For five hundred years peace ruled….until one of the technomage’s number, one called Arc, decided that the technomages should rule. Arc began to sow seeds of discontent among the other technomages and some of the members of the council. At the same time, the mages tried to calm the council members and keep the peace. This was to no avail, as Arc began to use his magic to gain even more influence and brought the council close to brawling on many occasions. It is said that during this time he also began to design and create war machines in secret, but nothing has ever been found to substantiate this.
The council was finally disbanded in 1452 BF, five hundred and forty-eight years before the Great War. Unrest began to spread, and fighting broke out amongst the different races. In the end, even the races began to fracture and in-fighting broke out. Soon, battles were being fought, tearing apart the peace and the lives of all……
As I said, this is all we could gather from the books and illustrations that have been found thus far. Even with the information that has been collected, much of it has been damaged. We hope to find out more about this world and what happened to it, so that we can prevent it from happening again.
